Le volume 17 de la collection Roman and Late Antique Mediterrranean Pottery (Archaeopress) : Roman Amphora Contents : Reflecting on the Maritime Trade of Foodstuffs in Antiquity est consacré aux actes du congrès international RACIIC (Roman Amphora Contents International Interactive Conference), tenu à Cadix en 2015 en l’honneur de l’éminent amphorologue espagnol Miguel Beltrán Lloris. L’objectif était de réfléchir à l’état actuel des connaissances sur les paléocontenus des amphores romaines. Avec plus de 30 spécialistes de différents pays, le texte examine quatre thèmes de manière diachronique tout au long de la période romaine jusqu’au VIIe siècle, avec quelques aperçus sur l’époque préromaine : 1) les relations entre les amphores et leur contenu, dans une perspective interdisciplinaire (des tituli picti à l’archéologie subaquatique, en passant par les problèmes de réutilisation) ; 2) l’état actuel des connaissances concernant les approches archéométriques (notamment l’analyse des résidus organiques) ; 3) des synthèses au niveau régional / provincial (de la Lusitanie à l’Égypte) ; et 4) des études de cas récentes, de Corinthe, Pompéi et Arles au Fretum Gaditanum, qui permettent d’illustrer des approches différentes et combinées, nécessairement interdisciplinaires (archéologiques, archéobotaniques, archéozoologiques, épigraphiques, palynologiques ou biomoléculaires), afin d’avancer dans ce thème transversal et sa signification pour l’histoire économique et le trafic maritime du monde antique.
Ce volume, édité par Darío Bernal-Casasola (Université de Cadix), Michel Bonifay (CCJ), Alessandra Pecci (Université de Barcelone) et Victoria Leitch (Université de Durham/collaboratrice associée CCJ), contient plusieurs articles signés par des membres du laboratoire : Emmanuel Botte, Marie-Brigitte Carre, Franca Cibecchini, Fabienne Olmer, Myriam Sternberg et André Tchernia.
